A royal patisserie’s heritage, finally told

Güntherska Hovkonditori & Schweizeri has served Uppsala for well over a century. The family-run patisserie and café on Östra Ågatan is now in its fifth generation.

The challenge

The heritage was there, but the old expression hid it. Next to new cafés with modern branding, Güntherska risked looking dated rather than established.

The craft deserved a brand that people could recognise from across the street and carry home in a box.

The opportunity

We went back to the era the patisserie grew up in. Rooted in Jugend and Art Deco, the identity brings a lost period back in a modern way: a crowned G crest, a tall condensed wordmark and deep teal with gold.

Thin gold rules, arched frames and a scalloped seal hold names and titles the way a period shop sign would. The system scales from a 16 pixel favicon to a hand-painted shop window, and it is built to age as well as the recipes.

The result

Cake boxes, ribbons, bread bags, business cards with painted edges, the café window, a food truck and the webshop now tell the same story.

Five generations of craft, worn with pride. Customers see the heritage before they taste it.
